Meet the Team: Annette Hall

This week meet Annette Hall, our leading interviewer for the Generation 3 study:

Q1) How long have you been involved with the ATP?
“I started with the ATP 3 ½ years ago, attracted by the opportunity to work in research with children and families, and by the positive reputation of the study.”

Q2) What is your favourite part about your role with the ATP?
“My role on the ATP is the Generation 3 Interviewing Team Leader. This means I’m always super busy conducting phone interviews with families during pregnancy, at 8 weeks, 1 year and 4 years old. Without a doubt the best thing about working for the ATP is interviewing our participants and being a part of new components as they get off the ground, such as Life@4 last year.”

Q3) What is the hardest thing about your role?
“With the introduction of the Life@4 study I have had the new experience of talking with lots of dads. This was a whole new challenge for me as previously I had worked mostly with women and mums! I have found that dads also love being a part of the study once they understood just how much we value them. Just like our mums, we are very interested in their relationships with their children, and their role in parenting and the family.”

Q4) How do you think the ATP is making a difference?
“The last 3 years have seen the start of a number of new studies within Generation 3 and this has been really exciting. I think the new study looking at the relationship between genes, hormones and environments during pregnancy is particularly fascinating, as it will provide new insights into how these factors interact to shape children’s social and emotional development later in life.

Q5) When you are not at work, how do you relax?
Outside work I really enjoy exercising at the gym, reading and watching films. However, I love the outdoors and especially swimming in the surf. Last but by no means least, I love spending time with my family including our two beautiful (adult) children, and our extended family in Qld and NSW.
