Meet the Team: Sophie Barker

This week we’d like to introduce Sophie Barker, the Project Coordinator of Generation 3. Read on to learn a little more about Sophie:

Q1) How long have you been involved with the ATP?
“I have been part of the ATP since early 2015. Generation 3 is the third longitudinal study on the Melbourne Children’s Campus that I have had the privilege to work for.”

Q2) What is your favourite part about your role with the ATP?
“I love engaging with real, everyday families as they traverse their different pathways in life. We are so lucky they are willing to open up and share their experiences for the betterment of future generations. And I love all things science of course!”

Q3) What is the hardest thing about your role?
“Keeping track of over 4000 precious participants from Generations 1, 2 and 3 is definitely a challenge! At the moment I am also completing a Master of Public Health, planning a wedding and undergoing house renovations, so I have my work cut out for me.

Q4) How do you think the ATP is making a difference?
“The ATP is building up a hugely comprehensive picture of information across three generations. This opens up lots of exciting opportunities to explore the ways in which we can improve health and wellbeing from one generation to the next.”

Q5) When you are not at work, how do you relax?
“I relax with a combination of everything in moderation; I am part of a wonderful running group to stay fit and I love my weekly yoga sessions… but I also can’t go past good wine and cheese with friends!”
