Meet the Team: Dr Primrose Letcher

Welcome to our ‘Meet the Team’ series! This week we’d like to introduce Dr Primrose Letcher, Project Manager of the ATP and Generation 3. Read on to learn a little more about Primrose:

Q1) How long have you been involved with the ATP?
“I first started with the ATP as a research assistant 19 years ago, when participants were 15-16 years old! Since then, I have qualified as a clinical psychologist, completed a PhD using data from the ATP, and taken time off to have two children. I now work for the ATP as Project Manager and also work as a Clinical Psychologist.”

Q2) What is your favourite part about your role with the ATP?
“I really enjoy speaking to participants, managing a team of committed staff and writing about findings from the study.”

Q3) What is the hardest thing about your role?
“As Project Manager there is always lots to juggle, and managing my ATP work as well as a small private practice and busy kids can be challenging at times, but it’s certainly never dull!”

Q4) How do you think the ATP is making a difference?
“Early on, the ATP was the first study to look at temperament in Australian children and showed how temperament is relatively stable yet can change with certain experiences such as parenting. More recently, our work on what helps young people to flourish has received a lot of interest. I’m very excited to be part of the current phase of the ATP, the Generation 3 study, which is focused on how experiences of one generation affect the next.”

Q5) When you are not at work, how do you relax?
“I like to relax by drinking copious amounts of strong tea, walking my dog and camping in national parks. I also really enjoy overseas travel but for now I am content spending time with my kids, reading with them, watching them do sport or just hanging out with them.”
