Fiona Russell receives prestigious Frank Fenner Award for Advanced Research in Infectious Diseases

On behalf of Melbourne Children’s Global Health we would like to extend our warm congratulations to Professor Fiona Russell, who on Friday received the prestigious Frank Fenner Award for Advanced Research in Infectious Diseases, from the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases . This award recognises the many achievements over Fiona’s career in global health, and her tireless work to bring health equity to the neediest populations. She is a global leader in childhood infectious disease research, and is the sixth woman to receive this award in its twenty year history. Her focus on vaccine preventable diseases in low and middle income countries, and her research in particular on pneumococcal vaccines has made a significant contribution to the global child health research agenda. Congratulations to Fiona, a well deserved accomplishment!
